It’s Time We Start Having Fun at Work!!

Have a quick peak at the video. Tell your boss it’s for “leadership training” purposes if they are sitting over your shoulder. ūüėČ

Now tell me…are you smiling? Do you feel happier about life for the moment?

This is the power of JOY, FUN and LAUGHTER!

Now, maybe flash mobs aren’t your thing, but I bet you seek ways to be happy and bring happiness to those around you.

If we desire to intentional with our leadership influence, shouldn’t we be doing our best to create¬†an ENJOYABLE working environment?

Research shows that when we have fun with others, these experiences have a positive effect on building trust and developing communication.

Having fun gives us an opportunity to connect and be creative. When we laugh together, this sends an external non-verbal message that says: ‚ÄúWe are alike, we share values.‚ÄĚ (Everett, 2011).

Studies have proven that fun, joy and laughter create happy customers, better motivated employees, less toxic work environments, and a greater willingness to understand one another.

I think we can all agree, we’d sign up for more of that!

I can you hear now…”But there’s work to do.¬†Who has time for fun?”

It doesn’t have to be a flash mob or even very time consuming, so below I shared¬†a few ideas to get the wheels turning.

Remember all work and no play makes for a very dull day!

  1. Flash Mob Hits the Workplace

Flash mob might not be your thing, but you might be able to find the more eccentric and outgoing team members to see if they might be able to flash mob your next meeting! ūüôā

  1. Food and Games!

Pick a Friday and over the lunch hour bring in your team for a game of Apples to Apples, UNO, or my personal favorite, Spoons!

  1. Cheesy Jokes

My 7 year old niece¬†loves cheesy jokes! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the “nacho cheese” one!¬† Regardless¬†of the cheese factor, they do make me smile and lift my mood.

So, next time you start your meeting, why not start with a few jokes? I am sure Google has plethora of cheesy jokes to choose from.

  1. Get Out of the Office!

There’s a team I work with who take their employees out of the office every quarter.¬†Whether it’s bowling, the movies, or Dave & Buster’s – their purpose is to get out and enjoy the afternoon together!

  1. Who Doesn’t Like to Be Entertained?¬†

Find your favorite short video and play it before you start your meeting.¬† The quickest way to ensure you start the meeting with a laugh, smile and everyone’s spirits are up!

Here’s one of my favorite¬†videos below that always makes me laugh.

Again…let the boss know this is for “leadership training” purposes.¬† Mikaela Kate said so. ūüôā
