Can You Handle 30 More Days? 3 Tips to Team Survival!

I am not sure about you, but some days I wake up with optimism and hope and the next day I want to stay in my PJ’s all day and binge watch Tiger King all day.

Maybe you can relate? 🙂

These days of uncertainty can often require extra doses of motivation and focus to be able to be productive, and the hardest part can be trying to discern what “productivity” even looks like right now.

I get it, there’s no sense of “normal”, so here are a few survival tips to make the most of this season as we navigate it together.

Tip #1: Define the Season

Proverbs 10:5 says, “Know the importance of the season you’re in and a wise son you’ll be…”

As the daughter of a farmer growing up in Iowa I learned at a young age, the importance of understanding the seasons.  When it’s May and the sun is out you don’t sleep until the crop is in the ground. When it’s summer you are patient, applying weed killer and put the proper preparations in place to hit the ground running in the fall.

The point…EVERY season has a purpose! Even when that season is forced upon us (like now) it still has importance, and it takes reflection and wisdom to discern its purpose and search for that direction.

Survival Takeaway: Don’t let this time be wasted. Even though life may look different decide to dig in, define your purpose and find the importance of this season.

You can even name it …Personal Growth or Vision Casting…then list your goals and you’re on your way!

Tip #2: Let Solitude Be Your Strength

What you produce in private will eventually be seen in public.  Your focus, your productivity, and your drive in this time of “quarantine” will eventually be shown by its fruit.

There’s a wisdom, a maturity, and strength of character that is forged in the times when no one is watching or needing anything from you and you decide to work on YOU. So ask yourself…

    * How are you managing your stress?

    * How are you tending to your relationships?

    * How are you growing your skills and abilities?

    * How are you maintaining your physical health?

The greater influence you have on your inner world, the greater influence you’ll have on your outer world, and now you might actually have the space to focus inward!

Survival Takeaway: Decide how you can strengthen and grow the inner YOU in this time. Purposely create space each day for self-reflection and some honest mental and emotionally check-ins.

Tip #3: Sustain Your Focus to Raise Your Standard

I am having conversations everyday about the new insights my clients are learning about themselves and their team in this time. When pressure increases you find out quickly where the cracks are and the opportunities for growth.

Many of the best innovations came out of a times where there was immense adversity and pressure, simply because there was no other choice, either change or die.

Bill Johnson says, “The key to great purpose or great destruction lies in where we choose to sustain our focus.”

We can either learn, grow, and adapt or stay stuck and get left behind, and much of that has to do with where we choose to sustain our focus in this time.

Survival Takeaway: One key to great focus is to keep the right questions in front of you.  Here are a few you and your team can think on as you move forward:

   * What lessons can we all learn from these last few weeks?

   * What about your communication works and doesn’t work?

   * What strategies do we need to set in place for future success?

   * What have I learned about how my teammates react to change?
